Quality Hand-Dipped Ice Cream in China Grove

Hand-dipped means each scoop is pulled from tubs of dense and hard-packed ice cream in the dip cabinet, rather than dispensed from a soft-serve machine. Less air is whipped into it, so it tastes richer and creamier. It is the way ice cream was served at drug store counters for most of the last century.

A hand-spun shake starts with real scooped ice cream and milk, mixed on a spindle until it turns thick and smooth. Fast-food shakes usually pour from a premixed base instead. Ours are made one cup at a time at the counter, so you can watch yours come together while you pick out old-fashioned candy.

Yes. There is dine-in seating and a counter, so you can sit down with a cone or a shake instead of rushing back to the car. Plenty of visitors settle in, and there is usually a tabletop puzzle in progress. Grab a glass bottle soda for the table while you are at it.

Tell us before we scoop. Flavors share one cabinet and scoops move between tubs, so we can never promise any serving is completely free of nuts or other allergens. What we can do is grab a clean scoop and take extra care, and our chocolates and packaged candies have labels you can check.

Summer afternoons are the busiest, especially Saturdays when downtown has something going on. If you want the counter to yourself, weekday openings are quietest. A scoop pairs well with a slice of fudge to take home for later, whatever time you land.
